Taylorsville Lake covers 3,050 acres and anchors Taylorsville Lake State Park, which includes a marina, public beach, 14 miles of hiking trails, a horse camp with 24 miles of equestrian trails, and year-round fishing for largemouth bass, crappie, and catfish. The lake is one of the newer Army Corps of Engineers reservoirs in Kentucky, completed in 1983.

Downtown Taylorsville runs along Main Street with the Spencer County Courthouse, independent restaurants, and a historic district listed on the National Register. The Spencer County Public Library anchors the east end of Main.

Spencer County Schools operates one elementary, one middle, and one high school (Spencer County High), and the district has added dual-credit programs through Jefferson Community and Technical College.

Commuting to Louisville runs 35 to 45 minutes, primarily along KY-155 and the Gene Snyder Freeway. Most of the county sits within a 25-minute drive of Jeffersontown and the Bluegrass Commerce Park.

Housing runs heavily toward rural acreage tracts, often 5 to 20 acres, with a smaller concentration of in-town homes in Taylorsville and the lake-adjacent neighborhoods along KY-44 and KY-155.
