Cherokee Triangle

A historic district of large Victorian and Tudor houses inside The Highlands.
Cherokee Triangle sits inside The Highlands, bounded roughly by Bardstown Road, Eastern Parkway, and Cherokee Park. The area holds one of Louisville's most concentrated runs of large historic houses, with brick and frame Victorians, Tudors, and Colonial Revivals from the late 1800s and early 1900s. Cherokee Parkway, Willow Avenue, and Longest Avenue carry many of the largest homes, on deeper lots than the surrounding Highlands blocks.

What it is like to live here

Cherokee Triangle reads as a quieter, more residential pocket inside The Highlands. The blocks are wider and the trees are older, with brick sidewalks and large front porches set back from the street. Housing runs to three-story Victorians, Tudors, Colonial Revivals, and a smaller stock of substantial bungalows. Cherokee Park sits at the eastern edge, with its Scenic Loop and Hogan's Fountain area reachable on foot from most blocks. Bardstown Road's restaurant and shop strip sits a flat ten-minute walk west. The area connects to downtown Louisville in about twelve minutes by car.

What you can do here

  • Walk into Cherokee Park from the eastern edge of the district.
  • Reach the Bardstown Road restaurant strip on foot in about ten minutes.
  • Choose among large Victorian, Tudor, and Colonial Revival houses.
  • Drive to downtown Louisville in about twelve minutes.
  • Attend the annual Cherokee Triangle Art Fair held each spring along Willow Avenue.
  • Walk the historic markers along Cherokee Parkway.
