Anchorage

A small independent city of wooded lots and old estate roads.
Anchorage sits about thirteen miles east of downtown Louisville, an incorporated city in Jefferson County. The area built up in the late 1800s around the Louisville and Nashville rail line, leaving a mix of restored estate houses, Victorian frame homes, and newer construction on larger wooded lots. The Anchorage Trail, a paved loop of about two and a half miles, runs through the heart of the city.

What it is like to live here

Anchorage runs on a network of two-lane roads under a heavy tree canopy. Most lots are at least an acre, and many run several acres. Housing varies from restored Victorians and frame estate houses to substantial newer Colonials on wooded parcels. The Anchorage Public School sits at the center of the city and serves the surrounding area. The Anchorage Trail is the area's main public space, looping past restored barns, an old train depot, and a series of wooded blocks. Downtown Louisville reaches in about twenty minutes by car. The city has no major commercial corridor, so shopping happens in nearby Middletown or Lyndon.
