Glenview

A small Ohio River bluff city of large estate lots.
Glenview sits about eight miles northeast of downtown Louisville, an incorporated city along the Ohio River. The area built up in the late 1800s as a series of country estates and has kept much of that pattern, with large lots, deep tree canopies, and stone or brick estate houses on quiet two-lane roads. River Road runs along the southern edge, with the Ohio River and its bluff defining the city.

What it is like to live here

Glenview keeps an estate-scale pattern that distinguishes it from most of Louisville. Most lots run at least an acre, and several run multiple acres. Housing varies from substantial brick and stone estate houses from the early 1900s to newer Colonial-style and Georgian-style construction on similar lots. The streets are narrow, the trees are heavy, and most roads have no sidewalks. The Ohio River bluff sits at the southern edge, with River Road running along it. Downtown Louisville reaches in about fifteen minutes by car, and the eastern shopping along U.S. Highway 42 is a few minutes away. The Brownsboro Road corridor runs at the southern edge.

What you can do here

  • Walk or bike the two-lane roads under the heavy tree canopy.
  • Reach the Ohio River bluff at the southern edge of the city.
  • Drive to downtown Louisville in about fifteen minutes via Interstate 71 or River Road.
  • Choose among brick and stone estate houses and newer Colonial-style homes on larger lots.
  • Reach the U.S. Highway 42 shopping corridor in a few minutes by car.
  • Bike or walk the Louisville Loop connections along the river edge.
