A river city with a restored downtown and a historic district

New Albany sits directly across the Ohio River from Louisville's west end, the largest city in Southern Indiana's Floyd County. The downtown core along Pearl Street and Market Street holds a restored stretch of brick storefronts, restaurants, and a public plaza. Bicentennial Park, at the foot of State Street, holds a small amphitheater on the river.

The Mansion Row historic district, a few blocks north along East Main Street between State Street and Vincennes Street, holds one of Indiana's larger concentrations of mid-to-late 1800s mansions, mostly Italianate and Greek Revival. Beyond the core, the city spreads into older residential neighborhoods of frame and brick two-stories, then into mid-century subdivisions toward Charlestown Road. The Sherman Minton Bridge connects directly to Louisville, with downtown Louisville reaching in about ten minutes by car.

What you can do here

  • Bike or walk the Ohio River Greenway along the riverfront.
  • Drive to downtown Louisville in about ten minutes via the Sherman Minton Bridge.
  • Choose among historic Italianate and Greek Revival houses, frame two-stories, and mid-century homes.
  • Attend events at the Bicentennial Park amphitheater along the river.

The market right now

Prices in New Albany vary by district more than in many Louisville-area neighborhoods.
