Welcome to Louisville

Louisville is Kentucky's largest city, with roughly 630,000 residents along the southern bank of the Ohio River. The metro area covers about 1.3 million people across Jefferson County and surrounding counties in Kentucky and Indiana.

Neighborhoods each carry their own character. NuLu runs along East Market Street with independent restaurants and galleries. The Highlands stretches Bardstown Road through more than 80 locally owned businesses. Old Louisville holds the country's largest concentration of Victorian homes. Crescent Hill, Clifton, Germantown, and Portland each offer easy-to-explore blocks within a short drive of downtown.

Green space is extensive. Cherokee Park covers 409 acres with a 2.4-mile scenic loop designed by Frederick Law Olmsted. Waterfront Park runs 85 acres along the Ohio River and connects to the Big Four pedestrian bridge into Indiana. Iroquois, Shawnee, and Seneca parks round out the Olmsted system.

Churchill Downs hosts the Kentucky Derby on the first Saturday in May. The Muhammad Ali Center, Frazier History Museum, Kentucky Science Center, and Louisville Slugger Museum sit within walking distance downtown. Whiskey Row on West Main Street includes Angel's Envy, Michter's, Old Forester, and Evan Williams distilleries.

I-64, I-65, and I-71 intersect downtown, and Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport operates the UPS Worldport global sorting facility. Jefferson County Public Schools operates the district, and the University of Louisville sits three miles south of downtown.
