Georgetown

A small Floyd County town in the wooded hills west of New Albany.
Georgetown sits in western Floyd County, Indiana, about ten miles northwest of New Albany along State Road 64. The town built up around a small historic core at Main Street and Highway 64 and remains largely rural in character, with subdivisions and acreage spread across the wooded hills. The Edwardsville and Galena communities, just to the east, share the same rolling terrain and similar housing patterns.

What it is like to live here

Georgetown runs as a rural-edge community with a small historic core. The downtown blocks along Main Street hold a handful of older frame and brick buildings, a town hall, and a small park. Beyond the core, housing spreads through subdivisions of brick ranches, two-story Colonials, and substantial newer homes on lots ranging from a quarter acre to several acres. The terrain rolls through wooded ridges and farmland, with longer views from many of the higher lots. The town sits about twenty minutes from downtown Louisville via Interstate 64 and the Sherman Minton Bridge, and about ten minutes from New Albany along State Road 64.

What you can do here

  • Walk the small historic core along Main Street.
  • Drive the wooded country roads through the surrounding hills.
  • Choose among brick ranches, two-story Colonials, and newer homes on larger wooded lots.
  • Drive to downtown Louisville in about twenty minutes via Interstate 64.
  • Reach New Albany in about ten minutes along State Road 64.
  • Hike at Clark State Forest, about fifteen minutes north.
