Audubon Park

A small independent city of curving streets and mature trees south of The Highlands.
Audubon Park sits about four miles south of downtown Louisville, an incorporated city of about one square mile inside Jefferson County. The area was platted in the early 1900s along curving streets that wind through what was originally a private estate. The tree canopy is unusually full, and the housing runs to brick Tudors, Cape Cods, and Colonial Revivals from the 1920s and 1930s.

What it is like to live here

Audubon Park keeps its own street grid, distinct from the rest of south Louisville. The roads curve rather than run straight, and the lots sit deeper than the surrounding blocks. Housing leans toward brick Tudors, Cape Cods, and Colonial Revivals built between roughly 1920 and 1945, with a smaller stock of newer infill. The area is quiet enough that deer and wild turkey appear on the streets. The Audubon Country Club sits at the center, with the Louisville Zoo just across the railroad tracks to the north. Downtown Louisville reaches in about ten minutes by car, and the Watterson Expressway sits at the southern edge.

What you can do here

  • Walk or run the curving residential streets, which read as quieter than the surrounding grid.
  • Visit the Louisville Zoo, just across the railroad tracks at the north edge.
  • Reach downtown Louisville in about ten minutes by car.
  • Choose among brick Tudors, Cape Cods, and Colonial Revivals on deep lots.
  • Reach the Watterson Expressway at the southern edge for east-west travel.
  • Drive into The Highlands in under ten minutes via Bardstown Road.
