The Floyd Central High School area anchors the central part of the community.

The roads curve through the ridges and dip into hollows, with houses set on lots that range from a quarter acre in newer subdivisions to multiple acres on the country roads. Housing varies from brick two-story Colonials and ranches in the planned subdivisions to substantial newer homes on wooded acreage. The area sits high enough that several spots have long views across the Ohio River valley toward Louisville. The Floyds Knobs Lookout, just off Skyline Drive, gives the best public view. Downtown Louisville reaches in about twenty minutes by car via Interstate 64 and the Sherman Minton Bridge.
