Welcome to Clark County

Clark County sits directly across the Ohio River from Louisville, with a population of roughly 122,000 across 375 square miles. Jeffersonville is the county seat, and Charlestown, Sellersburg, Clarksville, and Borden are the other incorporated communities.

The county holds more than 70 miles of Ohio River frontage. Falls of the Ohio State Park in Clarksville preserves a 390-million-year-old fossil bed covering 220 acres of exposed Devonian coral reef, the largest naturally exposed fossil bed of its kind in the world. Charlestown State Park covers 5,100 acres along Fourteenmile Creek with hiking trails, canoeing access, and the remains of the Indiana Army Ammunition Plant.

I-65 runs the length of the county from the Kennedy and Lincoln bridges in Jeffersonville north through Sellersburg, giving most addresses a 15- to 25-minute drive into downtown Louisville. The Lewis and Clark Bridge on I-265 provides a second crossing near Utica.

Greater Clark County Schools, New Albany-Floyd County Schools, and West Clark Community Schools cover different portions of the county. Indiana University Southeast sits on the border with Floyd County and serves roughly 4,000 students.

Housing spans historic 19th-century homes in downtown Jeffersonville, postwar brick ranches in Clarksville, newer subdivisions in Sellersburg and Charlestown, and rural tracts north of Borden in the knobs country.
