Crestwood sits in southern Oldham County, about 18 miles northeast of downtown Louisville along I-71. The community has a population of roughly 5,400 and serves as the commuter base for much of South Oldham.
 
Oldham County Schools runs the district, and the South Oldham feeder pattern (Crestwood Elementary, South Oldham Middle, South Oldham High) consistently reports among the strongest academic and athletic results in the state. The district has held a top-five ranking in Kentucky state testing for more than a decade.
 
Commuting to Louisville runs 25 to 30 minutes to downtown and 15 to 20 minutes to the East End office corridor along I-71 and the Gene Snyder Freeway.
 
Local amenities include the 25-acre Crestwood Park, the Oldham County Aquatic Center, and Yew Dell Botanical Gardens, a 60-acre former horticultural research estate now open to the public. The Centerfield and Crestwood Station commercial centers hold independent restaurants, a hardware store, a coffee roaster, and a grocery.
 
Housing runs from older homes on larger wooded lots near Highway 146 to newer subdivisions in Lake Louisvilla, Persimmon Ridge, and the Settlers Point development. Persimmon Ridge includes a private 18-hole golf course designed by Arthur Hills.
 
La Grange, the Oldham County seat, sits five miles north and includes the historic downtown where the CSX rail line runs down the middle of Main Street.
